January Blues, that's what everyone seems to be talking about for the last few weeks. It's hard to get back into work mode after the Christmas period, and whether you're off for a few short days or the very long 2 weeks and 3 days that the children had off from school, it's still the holiday season. But we're nearly there, January is coming to a close and we're coming into February and shortly Spring season.
In the meantime, to help take away the last of the January Blues, I've put in a little inspiration for your garden. No matter what month you visit us here in Rockbarton Garden Centre, we always have colour.
Hamamelis or Witchhazel as it's more commonly known currently in stock with yellow catkins. They like a sunny spot in the garden and while they are slow growing they really do stand out during the winter months.
Mahonia's, are large growing shrubs, and fit very well in the shady spot of the garden. They have large yellow flowers during the winter months, and can start flowering from November right through until March.
Sarcococca is an amazingly scented shrub. As soon as you walk past it the scent just hits you.It can also be called Sweet Box or Christmas Box. It is an evergreen shrub with white flowers during the winter months followed by black berries.
There are flower bulbs just coming into flower here in the garden, including snowdrops and the first of the yellow crocus buds are shining through. I have to say, this time of year, I love the colour yellow, it is like a little sunshine through all the January Blues!
